The following questions are commonly asked when new clients come to therapy. Please feel free to contact us if you have any other queries. |
Do I need a referral?
You may be referred by your GP or Psychiatrist as part of a Mental Health Treatment Plan (with a diagnosed mental health condition), which entitles you to a rebate on the cost of the initial six sessions. Following this, you will have a review with your GP or Psychiatrist and may be eligible for a further four sessions.
Alternatively, you may utilise your private health care plan or choose to refer and pay privately. The choice is yours.

How many sessions will I need?
This question gets asked frequently and is a very difficult one to answer. The number of sessions will be considered once we discuss why you are choosing to attend at this time. As part of 'informed consent' we will discuss the potential number of sessions in the first meeting.
Can my baby come with me?
Babies under the age of 1 are welcome at clinic appointments. Children over the age of one do understand a lot of language and are more in tune with their surrounds, so therapy in front of the child may not be appropriate. As such, I recommend finding suitable care arrangements (if possible).
Bottle and breast feeding are of course welcome in session.

Are our sessions confidential?
All information discussed in our sessions is confidential. However, there are some rare occasions when there is a limit to confidentiality. These situations include when you are at imminent risk and I need to communicate with other health care workers to keep you or someone else safe, when some information is shared with your treating GP as part of your continuity of care, or when notes may be requested by a third party when required by law (such as in a court case). We will discuss this in the first session as part of the 'informed consent'.
Do you have cancellation fees?
Cancellation fees do apply for sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours prior to your scheduled time, as this time is reserved solely for you and is rarely able to be filled by another client at the last minute.
Cancellation fees are not covered by Medicare, so they are out-of-pocket costs. Cancellation fees will be discussed in the first session as part of 'informed consent'.
